The FloatZig Symmetro is an unconventional shoe. Although it resembles a highly cushioned shoe, it behaves completely differently on the foot. The foam is springy but does not collapse or spread sideways. While it’s difficult to describe as soft, it’s certainly stable, and formally remains neutral. It’s an option for runners looking for stiffer shoes who are tired of floating platforms but want to avoid classic shoes with stabilization.

Similar to Reebok FloatZig Symmetros
The Reebok FloatZig Symmetro is an everyday training shoe that is not overly soft. In an era of increasingly plush constructions, they stand out with their unique character. The high platform visually resembles typical max-cushioned shoes, but the shoe remains stiff and controls movement well while running. The solid cushioning makes it best suited for runners weighing up to about 176 lbs.

High Stack, But Not Overly Soft
The midsole of the Reebok FloatZig Symmetro is made of dual-density Floatride Energy foam, which is based on EVA. Reebok deliberately used a two-layer construction – the different densities of the material are designed to absorb shock and reduce foot instability. At first glance, the midsole appears thick. However, it is actually 33 mm at the heel and 27 mm at the forefoot, placing this model in the mid-height midsole category. The nature of the foam also prevents the shoe from collapsing like many current running shoes. The cushioning is compact and springy rather than soft, so the shoe seems harder than it looks.
It is a neutral shoe, though it offers increased stability. This is due to the aforementioned midsole with two levels of softness. This improves foot roll and increases movement control. The platform is also wide enough to prevent the foot from slipping sideways. However, this is not a shoe for pronators, as there are no classic stabilizing elements or forced corrections to foot position. The shoe’s stability comes from the geometry and stiffness of the material, not additional interference, so it remains neutral.
Overall, this is a good option for light runners (up to 80 kg) looking for a stable training shoe for everyday running. It will also be a good solution for runners looking for additional support without aggressive interference.

City-Ready Outsole With Solid Grip
The Reebok FloatZig Symmetro’s outsole is made of solid, fairly hard rubber, which provides the typical grip of an asphalt shoe. A notable advantage is the extensive coverage of the midsole with abrasive material. This amount of rubber should significantly improve wear resistance and extend the shoe’s lifespan. This is especially important for a training shoe, which is expected to last for around 1,000–1,500 km. The grooves are relatively deep for an urban shoe at around 1.7 mm, ensuring reliable traction on hard surfaces, sidewalks, and compacted paths.
The biggest disadvantage to using this shoe outside typical urban terrain is its tendency to get pebbles and pine cones stuck in the hollow center of the midsole. This clearly indicates that the model is best suited for urban conditions.

Soft Upper With a Roomier Fit
The FloatZig Symmetro’s upper is made of multi-layered, soft, open-structure technical mesh. This material provides moderate air permeability, similar to that found in most shoe models. However, it may be too thick for those who value high breathability and ventilation.
The front of the shoe is relatively wide. At its widest point, it measures 106.1 mm, which is above average for training shoes designed for everyday running. This gives the toes more freedom of movement and reduces the risk of chafing during longer training sessions. The midfoot is traditionally narrower. Additionally, slightly stiffer panels in the upper stabilize the foot and keep it in place.

The heel counter is constructed in a classic style typical of training shoes. Inside is a moderately stiff element that limits excessive heel movement without feeling restrictive. The support is secure yet not intrusive. For everyday running, this provides neutral runners with sufficient comfort and smooth foot guidance. However, it is not ideal for those who require very strong support in this area.
Right in the Middle Weight-Wise
According to the manufacturer’s data, the shoe weighs 278 grams. The men’s model in my size, US 12, weighs 330 grams. These values are both quite typical for training shoes – this model is neither excessively heavy nor overly light.

Final Thoughts
At first glance, the FloatZig Symmetro’s construction is neither outstanding nor particularly impressive. However, it provides reliable performance, excellent stride control, and comfortable support for everyday running. It is best suited to neutral runners who don’t want very soft cushioning but also don’t want a classic stabilizing shoe. Its specific design is precisely what will attract its supporters.
