Carbon Plate Meets ZoomX Foam
The Nike Zoom Fly 6 has undergone a significant transformation, especially in its midsole construction. It now has two layers. The upper layer is made of full-length ZoomX foam for excellent cushioning and bounce. The lower layer is made of stable SR-02 foam to support and improve stability. A full-length carbon fiber Flyplate between these layers improves dynamic performance and adds energy with every bounce. The principle of operation can be compared to a lever that bends slightly upon landing and propels the foot forward, thereby increasing running efficiency.

The stack has also changed. The Zoom Fly 6 is now a few millimeters taller, with a heel height of 42 millimeters and a forefoot height of 34 millimeters. Just a few years ago, stacks of 4 centimeters attracted attention. Today, this height has become standard in running shoes. This stack height makes the shoe exceptionally soft and provides excellent cushioning. It is much better than that offered by its predecessor. With the addition of more ZoomX foam, the Zoom Fly 6 is softer and much more comfortable than the harder Zoom Fly 5.
The Zoom Fly 6 also features a modified midsole profile. The distinctive “rocker” that facilitates a smooth foot roll is accentuated and clearly noticeable. Its construction supports toe-off, enabling a pleasant, natural roll and subtly encouraging forefoot running. For runners who prefer this style, it is the perfect choice.
On the other hand, people who land on their heels may experience instability due to the midsole’s geometry and the deeply cut heel area. Keep this in mind when choosing this model, especially if stability in this area is important to you.

Outsole: Durable and More Structured
The Zoom Fly 6 outsole was designed for this model’s training and racing purposes. As befits a shoe in the “fast” category, the rubber elements are placed in areas important for fast running. Most of these elements are located under the front part of the shoe, where the push-off phase takes place. Under the heel, the rubber is primarily positioned along the edges, leaving the center open to reduce the shoe’s weight.
The moderately aggressive outsole is designed exclusively for hard urban surfaces. At 1.4 millimeters, its depth is relatively high for a model designed for fast running. It provides excellent grip on both dry and wet asphalt surfaces.

Breathable Two-Layer Mesh Construction
The Zoom Fly 6’s upper is made of moderately thick, two-layer technical mesh. While it is not the most breathable on the market, it provides good ventilation.
The interior of the shoe is not too narrow or too wide. The front and middle sections of the shoe are clearly distinct in terms of fit. The toe area is relatively spacious, which is surprising considering its width at the widest point is 103.3 millimeters. The middle part, on the other hand, is fitted to make the foot feel secure. The flexible connection between the tongue and the upper provides additional stability. This feature is new compared to the previous edition, which lacked such an element.

The heel is stiffened in a classic way, which is typical for running shoes. Inside the heel counter is a stiff wedge that effectively holds the heel in place. The Zoom Fly 6 has excellent rear support. However, regarding stability, it is worth revisiting what I wrote earlier. Specifically, the midsole under the heel is strongly contoured and undercut. For people who land heavily on their heels, this may cause instability. The less heel involvement and the faster the run, the more stable the Zoom Fly 6 becomes.

Heavier Than It Looks
According to the manufacturer’s data, the men’s version weighs 265 grams and the women’s version weighs 214 grams, which is nearly identical to the previous model. However, after weighing a size 12 US shoe, my scale showed 299 grams, 29 grams less than the previous model.
Despite its lightness, the Zoom Fly 6 is one of the heaviest speed training shoes. It weighs several grams more than the average for this class of shoes and is among the 22% heaviest models. However, it more than makes up for this with its “lightness” on the foot.

Summary
The Nike Zoom Fly 6 is a significant improvement over its predecessor. Thanks to changes in midsole construction, increased ZoomX foam, and new geometry, this model provides a much more enjoyable running experience. The cushioning is softer and more resilient, providing greater comfort, especially during longer workouts. Meanwhile, the shoe retains its dynamism thanks to a full-length carbon fiber plate and a clearly marked “cradle” that supports foot roll and push-off. The Zoom Fly 6 is a much “faster” shoe than the Zoom Fly 5 and an excellent choice for runners looking for a versatile shoe for fast training sessions.
