Role in the Running Shoe Rotation
In the Asics running shoe lineup, the GT-2000 15 is a stable, versatile training shoe. It’s primarily designed for warm-ups, easy runs, and long runs, but its character isn’t limited to a relaxed pace. It’s noticeably lighter and more dynamic than the Gel-Kayano 33, so it’s also a good choice when you want to run a little faster during your daily training.
If, on the other hand, lightness and performance are your priorities and you want a shoe for faster workouts in your rotation, the Novablast 6 is a good complement. It’s more responsive and clearly performs better at faster paces. It’s worth remembering, however, that it will provide significantly less ankle stability. If needed, you can of course round out your rotation with the lightest, racing Metaspeed Sky, which offers the most performance during your fastest runs.
However, the GT-2000 15 is the foundation. Its strength lies precisely in its versatility—it makes a level of cushioning and stability available that lighter, faster shoes simply cannot match.

Cushioning Without the “Cushion” Effect and Geometry-Based Stability
The Asics GT-2000 15 outsole utilizes two main technologies. The base consists of FF BLAST MAX foam, which makes full-length cushioning possible. A PureGEL insert is positioned under the heel, further enhancing shock absorption upon landing. Compared to the previous version, the foam is slightly softer, but it still retains the stability and control characteristic of the GT-2000. This cushioning is designed primarily for comfort during daily workouts, rather than for the softest possible feel. This model is far from being a max-cushioned shoe.
The sole is also higher than in the previous version. The Asics GT-2000 15 has 38 mm under the heel and 30 mm under the forefoot, resulting in an approximate 8 mm heel-to-toe drop. The increased amount of foam improves protection against hard surfaces and works particularly well during slightly longer runs. However, this doesn’t make the shoe feel heavy. The construction has been streamlined, and the sole’s geometry helps the foot roll smoothly and adds a noticeable lightness.

The 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM is responsible for the stability of the GT-2000 15. This system is based on the sole’s geometry and enhances stability through the appropriate shaping of the platform and its optimal width. Unlike classic stability shoes, the GT-2000 15 does not use a rigid element on the medial side of the sole. Therefore, you won’t find a traditional stability wedge here, which acts as a rigid “lock” against overpronation. The geometry of the entire sole is designed to provide smoother and less intrusive foot guidance.
The effect is non-aggressive and gentle. The GT-2000 15 offers more control than a neutral shoe, while still allowing the foot to move naturally. It works well for runners with moderately severe overpronation who need light support. It can also be a good choice for people with neutral feet who simply prefer a more stable platform underfoot. However, for cases of severe overpronation and significant inward rolling of the ankles, this shoe will not provide sufficient support.

Lightweight Outsole Designed for Urban
The GT-2000 15 outsole is made from several types of AHAR rubber, including the more durable AHAR+ in areas most prone to abrasion. Asics did not cover the entire sole surface with rubber, keeping the construction relatively lightweight; however, the sole may wear out faster with regular running on gravel roads.
The outsole layout is typical for a shoe designed for road use, and its pattern is familiar from other models, such as the Novablast 6. The texture of the rubber elements is very shallow, and the large, flat sections of rubber primarily make good ground contact and flexibility possible rather than aggressive traction. This construction works best on roads, sidewalks, and occasionally on paved dirt paths. I do not recommend it for regular running on hard, rocky gravel. In such conditions, traction may be somewhat lacking, and the areas of the sole not covered by rubber—of which there are many—may wear out quickly.

A Thin, Snug-Fitting Upper
The GT-2000 15 upper is made of engineered woven mesh, a lightweight material with a woven structure. It is relatively thin and highly breathable, so even on warmer days, your feet won’t overheat quickly inside the shoe. Compared to its predecessor, the upper offers better ventilation.
The interior of the shoe has a standard width and a fairly tapered toe box, which doesn’t make much room for the toes. Runners with a wide forefoot may find this model quite tight. For runners with average-width feet, this model will provide plenty of room. At the same time, the rest of the upper is quite snug and, when laced properly, holds the foot securely. In its standard version, the GT-2000 15 prioritizes a precise fit over ample freedom of movement for the foot and toes.
The heel counter on the GT-2000 15 features a classic construction with clearly noticeable internal reinforcement and a sturdy foam collar. It’s quite stiff, which firmly locks in the heel, but it isn’t quite as “armored” as in top-tier models with maximum stability. Combined with the sole’s geometry, this provides good guidance for the rear of the foot. As with many modern stabilizing shoes, the GT-2000 15 doesn’t rely solely on the sole for stability—the upper also helps keep the foot in the correct position.

Lighter Than Most in Its Class
According to the producer’s data, the men’s version of the GT-2000 15 weighs 252 grams, and the women’s version 221 grams. In my size, US 12, however, the shoe weighs 313 grams.
Compared to the GT-2000 14, the producer has reduced the weight by about 20 grams. That’s a significant difference, especially since the stack has also been increased. The GT-2000 15 thus offers more cushioning, yet is lighter than its predecessor. Compared to other stabilizing training shoes, this is a very good result. When comparing its measured weight in my size to other training shoes, it also fares well. Among urban training shoes, it ranks among the lightest 18% of models. Again, this is a very good result.

Summary
The Asics GT-2000 15 is a versatile training shoe that combines ample cushioning with stability without overly restricting foot movement. The wide platform and geometry make for good guidance while allowing the foot to move naturally. In addition, this new version is taller and lighter than its predecessor. It remains a good choice for runners with overpronation who need extra support but don’t want heavy, stiff stabilization. It will also work well for neutral runners who prefer a more stable platform.
