Purpose

The Nike Vomero Plus is a model designed for hard surfaces, where a high level of cushioning plays a key role. The shoe is aimed at runners who value comfort, as well as those with a higher body weight – thanks to its construction, it performs well even with loads of 95–100 kg. The Vomero Plus is best suited for everyday, easy training and recovery sessions, when maximum comfort is a priority. From a biomechanical point of view, it is a neutral model, designed for people with a standard foot roll, without a clear tendency towards overpronation or supination.

Nike Running Shoes – lineup

The Nike Vomero Plus is the successor to one of the most cushioned models in the brand’s lineup – the Nike Invincible. Its sibling, the classic Vomero model, offers only slightly less cushioning, so both models remain similar in character. However, if you prefer shoes with less foam, the iconic Pegasus, which has been considered a universal training model for years, is a natural alternative. You can find more about Vomero, Pegasus, and other Nike offerings in our shoe guide.

Similar to Nike Vomero Plus

The Nike Vomero Plus is a new addition to the maximum cushioning training shoe category. Is it better than the competition? It’s hard to say definitively because shoe fit depends on the runner’s individual preferences. However, one thing is certain: this model is a strong alternative to classics such as the Asics Gel-Nimbus, Brooks Glycerin, and Saucony Triumph. A full comparison can be found in our guide to maximum-cushioning shoes.

Soft Landing, Explosive Takeoff

The Nike Vomero Plus is an “enhanced” version of the classic Vomero 18. This model is based on ZoomX foam, one of the most highly regarded materials in Nike’s lineup. It is known for its soft landing and dynamic rebound. Its large volume and widened platform provide high comfort and surprisingly decent stability for a shoe with such a soft character. The result is a blend of cushioning and responsiveness that makes every kilometer in the Vomero Plus feel like running in shoes designed purely for pleasure.

Nike Vomero Plus - cushioning

It’s no surprise that the Vomero Plus has an impressively high midsole. There are 45 mm of foam under the heel and 35 mm under the forefoot, resulting in a 10 mm drop. This value is slightly lower than that of the Vomero 18 and higher than that of most training models on the market. This massive midsole provides a high level of cushioning, making the Vomero Plus one of the softest and most comfortable training shoes in Nike’s collection.

The Nike Vomero Plus is a great choice for runners who regularly cover large training distances, as well as for those who need extra joint protection due to their body weight. This model performs well with body weights of 90–95 kg. Like the Vomero 18, the Vomero Plus shows its strengths best during easy sessions—long runs, recovery workouts, or easy mileage—but… If you’re looking for a more versatile shoe that allows you to change your pace, the Vomero Plus is a slightly better option. It is more dynamic and lighter than the Vomero 18.

Built for Roads, Trail Only in Small Doses

The Nike Vomero Plus has a solid, typically urban outsole construction. Rubber elements cover most of the midsole. The rubber has a moderately deep texture of about 2.0mm, and the characteristic cube pattern covers the entire outsole, giving it an aggressive look. This makes it a very versatile solution.

In practice, the Vomero Plus works best on hard surfaces, such as asphalt, sidewalks and tartan, where it provides adequate traction and durability. However, the outsole’s texture means it also performs well on park paths and dry forest trails. If you are looking for an even more aggressive grip for running outside the city, it is better to choose trail shoes, such as the Nike Pegasus Trail or the Nike Wildhorse.

Technical Mesh, Redesigned

The Nike Vomero Plus has an upper made of breathable technical mesh. It has a two-layer construction. The outer layer is thin, airy and highly breathable. The inner layer is soft and smooth to ensure comfort. In terms of construction, the Vomero Plus is on par with its competitors.

Fortunately, the Vomero Plus is not as “warm” as the Vomero 18. In terms of breathability, it is decent — not too warm or too cold. As with the upper construction, it does not lag behind its competitors in this respect. It will be a good choice for both colder and warmer days.

Nike Vomero Plus - toebox

The Nike Vomero Plus offers a good fit, and the upper is not overly spacious. In size 12US, the width at its widest point is 103.3mm, corresponding to standard values for this category. However, the soft, plush material provides a soft, pleasant fit and overall softness around the foot. The toe box is traditionally quite slim. Runners with a standard foot structure, where the big toe is the longest, won’t notice a difference. However, if you need extra space for your smaller toes, consider going up half a size. It will fit just as well and provide a little more room.

The rear stability is provided by a stiffened heel counter with a plastic clip that limits lateral heel movement. Additionally, the inflated, wide base provides a secure foundation and holds the foot firmly in place. For such high, well-cushioned shoes, there is a lot of stability.

Weightless Feel for Daily Training

According to the manufacturer’s data, the men’s Nike Vomero Plus weighs 281 grams and the women’s weighs 243 grams, which is roughly equivalent to comparable shoes from other manufacturers with similar parameters. In size 12US, the Vomero Plus weighs 320 grams, which is standard for training shoes designed for hard surfaces. So it’s not bad.

However, the measured weight and the perceived weight are often different, and the Vomero Plus is no exception. Thanks to the soft, springy foam and pleasant flow sensation, the shoe feels lighter than its weight suggests. It is definitely not a heavy shoe, especially among everyday running shoes — that’s what the Vomero Plus is designed for. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good run in them. This is an addition to its everyday comfort.

Final Thoughts

The Nike Vomero Plus is a more successful incarnation of the Vomero 18—it is lighter, both in weight and on the foot, and… more breathable. It combines exceptional cushioning with pleasant dynamic. Thanks to ZoomX foam and a wide platform, it makes a soft landing and stability even over long distances. It works best for easy running and should be chosen for that purpose, but it can also handle a faster pace. This model is designed primarily for easy training and runs where protection and plus-level cushioning are a priority.
