Do you remember the Asics Glideride? This model is back in a Max version. That means we get a higher level of cushioning and more shoe. As with previous editions, this shoe offers a smooth transition from heel to toe. Although it’s a typical training shoe for everyday running, it could be a good option for those who want a well-cushioned running shoe without too much “muddiness.”

Purpose
The Asics Glideride Max is a highly cushioned training shoe designed for runners who need a shoe for hard surfaces, such as asphalt. Thanks to its design, the shoe supports the natural rolling motion of the foot, helping you transition smoothly from heel strike to toe-off. This is particularly beneficial for runners who use the full-foot strike technique. The Asics Glideride Max is designed for runners with a neutral foot strike.

Pros
- very soft cushioning
- smooth transition from heel to toe
- suitable for both easy and slightly faster runs
- thin, breathable but supportive upper
- good value for money.
Cons
- hard to say
Asics Running Shoes – Lineup
The Asics Glideride Max can be compared to the well-known Gel-Cumulus model in the Asics lineup because they have similar cushioning parameters. However, the key differences lie in the shoes’ profiles and overall characters. The Cumulus is a more traditional, versatile model with a less dynamic construction. The Glideride Max stands out with its innovative approach, featuring a more contoured midsole and supportive technologies that provide a smooth ride and a “faster” and more advanced feel.

Very High-Level Cushioning
PodeszwThe midsole of the Asics Glideride Max running shoe consists of three layers that provide comfort, stability, and performance.
- The top layer is FlyteFoam Blast Max foam, which is characterized by its extreme softness and cushioning properties. It acts like a down cushion, providing runners with a pleasant softness that translates to greater comfort and running efficiency.
- The middle layer is made of rigid EVA foam and serves a stabilizing function. It stiffens the midsole and gives it the right profile to support smooth foot roll. This layer is sometimes compared to a carbon plate solution. However, the EVA foam layer is much more flexible than a plate-based solution.
- The bottom layer is made of FF Blast Plus Eco foam. This foam is made from at least 20% renewable materials. It is the most resilient part of the midsole, providing more resilience during takeoff. One could argue that the dynamic aspects of this model are mainly found in this layer.
The midsole has a stack height of 44 millimeters under the heel and 38 millimeters in the forefoot. This exceeds the four-centimeter limit, which justifies the Max designation.

Shaping That Supports Smooth Running
The Asics Glideride Max’s key feature is its innovative Guidesole midsole profile, which is distinguished by its strongly “boat-shaped” design. This design effectively supports the rolling motion of the foot and the push-off from the toes, making movement more fluid and running more energy efficient. The entire design is intended to relieve pressure on the foot as it rolls from heel to toe. This may be an unusual experience at first that not everyone will like. However, this is the philosophy behind these shoes: maximum support for smooth, efficient running.

As its name suggests, the Asics Glideride Max offers high-level cushioning. It can easily meet the demands of slightly heavier runners, providing protection and comfort. This shoe combines exceptional softness with a smooth foot roll, ensuring every step is comfortable and efficient. It is ideal for longer, relaxed distances, such as half marathons or marathons. At the same time, it is also great for shorter, more dynamic workouts, providing adequate responsiveness and support. It is a versatile option for runners who value comfort and performance.

Flat Yet Grippy Tread
The Asics Glideride Max midsole features a hybrid Asicsgrip outsole covering approximately half of its surface. The 1.8-millimeter lugs, identical to those on the top-of-the-line Nimbus 26, strike the right balance between durability and functionality. The outsole pattern is flat enough to allow for a fluid run, yet deep enough to provide reliable traction in various urban conditions.

Classic and Roomy Upper
The Glideride Max’s upper is made of Engineered Knit, an advanced technical fabric that provides soft comfort and breathability. The material appears slightly thinner than usual, which should provide excellent breathability. The shoe’s width is slightly larger than standard. At its widest point, the upper measures 106.8 millimeters, exceeding the average of 105.1 millimeters for running shoes of this size. This results in a looser fit at the front of the shoe.

The midfoot is comfortably held in place, a feature that is enhanced by additional straps connecting the tongue to the sides of the upper. This provides more support and minimizes the risk of the tongue moving sideways and becoming uncomfortable. This type of construction typically enhances comfort.
The heel counter of the Glideride Max is classic. Inside is a rigid stiffener that securely holds the heel in place and prevents excessive sideways movement. The spongy inner padding is also standard, providing high comfort. The grip is good, though it should be noted that this is subjective.

Moderate Weight
According to the manufacturer’s data, the men’s Glideride Max weighs 287 grams, while the women’s model weighs 251 grams. These are fairly standard values. My measurements of the size 12 US men’s model showed a weight of 330 grams, also a fairly standard value for everyday training shoes. In practice, this model compensates for its weight with its dynamic characteristics and pleasant rebound. This means that you won’t feel its weight while running. In any case, when it comes to everyday running shoes, the lowest weight is not the most important factor. Comfort and elasticity are more important, and the Glideride Max has plenty of both.

Summary
I rate the new Glideride Max version very highly. The midsole’s “sandwich” construction, consisting of three layers that perform different functions, deserves special attention. It strikes a harmonious balance between cushioning, stability, and resilience. The midsole’s characteristic “boat-shaped” profile is also impressive. In the new model, it is less aggressively contoured than in its predecessor but still offers high comfort and supports smooth foot roll.
The Glideride Max is an excellent choice for runners who want excellent cushioning and dynamic, elastic properties. It is a model that combines comfort during long runs with adequate responsiveness. This makes it a universal solution for runners who prefer equal measures of very good cushioning and dynamic, elastic properties.
