Asics running shoes – lineup
The GT-2000 is one of the key training models in the Asics running shoe lineup. Six models are most often mentioned in this group. Three of them are stability shoes and three are neutral construction shoes, each offering a different level of cushioning. The GT-2000 is a stability shoe with a very high, but not the highest level of cushioning. If you are looking for the highest level of cushioning, the Gel-Kayano is worth considering.

Very high cushioning, but not overwhelming
The midsole of the Asics GT-2000 13 combines two technologies. The main one, which makes up almost the entire midsole, is FF Blast+ foam, which makes the shoe lightweight and provides comfortable cushioning. In a key area, centrally under the heel, there is a PureGEL element that further improves shock absorption when landing. This construction is preferred by heel strike runners. Midfoot strikers may find the cushioning lacking. There is not much under the forefoot.

The cushioning of this model can be described as very high, but not maximum – it will work best for runners weighing up to about 90 kg. It will not necessarily be good for heavier and heavier runners. It will work much better for runners who like shoes that do not overwhelm them with their level of cushioning. In this respect, the cushioning in the GT-2000 can be described as balanced.
In the latest version of the Asics GT-2000, the stack height is 36.5mm under the heel and 28.5mm under the forefoot. These are the same values as in the previous model. They result in a high level of cushioning and running comfort. At the same time, it is about 3-4mm less than the best cushioned models like the Nimbus or Kayano.

Stabilization for overpronators and more
Stability in the GT-2000 13 is based on the 3D Guidance System, which uses an extended midsole construction. It works in three dimensions – width, length and height – which not only provides support for overpronators, but also improves the overall stability of the shoe.
Unlike the Kayano’s 4D Guidance system, the GT-2000 does not have a rigid element in the midsole on the medial side. This makes the stabilization more subtle and less intrusive to the natural movement of the foot. Of the stability models available, the GT-2000 offers the mildest form of support. This means that while it is technically a stability shoe, it is not designed exclusively for pronators. It is an excellent choice for any runner who prefers added stability without aggressive motion control.

Versatile and durable outsole
The outsole of the GT-2000 is made of durable AHAR+ rubber, which provides the standard level of grip typical of asphalt shoes. It covers a large portion of the midsole for durability. Additional cuts, especially in the front of the shoe, improve flexibility and help the foot roll smoothly.
The tread grooves are relatively shallow, with a maximum depth of 1.3mm, which is only 0.2mm less than the average for hard surface shoes. In practice, this means a moderately aggressive outsole that is ideal for urban surfaces such as pavement and sidewalks, but can also handle compacted gravel paths outside the city.

Moderately breathable upper
The upper of the GT-2000 is made of technical mesh with moderate thickness and breathability. The seamless finish makes it comfortable and attractive. The outer layer is lightly perforated for better ventilation, while the inner layer remains smooth for increased comfort. The material used here does not differ significantly from the standards in this category of shoe and offers an optimal balance between breathability and foot support.
The interior of the shoe is moderate. The width at the widest point is 103.9mm, which is slightly below average but still within the standard range. However, the slight taper of the upper at the front makes the shoe feel less roomy than the measurement suggests. People with wider feet may experience some discomfort here, especially around the smaller toes.

The heel counter in the GT-2000 13 is higher and finished with a distinctive “tail” that improves comfort around the Achilles tendon. The back of the shoe is traditionally reinforced with a plastic clip on the inside that stabilizes the heel and limits lateral movement. Thanks to this and the construction of the midsole, the GT-2000 remains a stable shoe.
Medium-light weight
According to the manufacturer, the men’s GT-2000 13 weighs 279 grams, while the women’s version weighs 234 grams. This is only slightly more than the previous model, making the 13 slightly heavier than the 12, but the difference is hardly noticeable in practice. For my size 12 US, the men’s GT-2000 13 weighs 328 grams, which is 11 grams more than the previous version. This is a very typical weight for running shoes, especially in the stability category. This weight puts the GT-2000 13 in the 24% lightest stability training shoe category.

Summary
The Asics GT-2000 13 is a solid choice for runners looking for a stable, comfortable shoe for everyday training that offers good cushioning and subtle stability. The lightweight shank and wide midsole provide stability, while the comfortable upper provides comfort and ventilation. The only downside is the slightly limited forefoot room, which may be noticeable to those with wider feet.
